CORPUS CHRISTI AND OUR CHILDREN'S FIRST COMMUNIONS
It's a blessing that this year the first group of our children are making their First Holy Communions on the Solemnity of The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi) after many months of preparation of the families and the candidates themselves. Many congratulations! And enormous 'thank yous' too. We have in fact been emphasising, of course, that whilst this will be their First Communion, it will only be the start of developing the children's relationship with Christ's Body and Blood through our weekly attendance at Mass - what a privilege! And for the rest of us who made our First Communions some time ago, our feast today is a time for renewal of our understanding of the mystery of the Eucharist. Jesus said to the disciples in the gospel last Sunday 'and know that I am with you always; yes, to the end of time' and we believe as Catholic Christians that Christ IS truly with us in his Real Presence in the Eucharist every time we go to Mass!
MARY SCOTT'S RETIREMENT AND VACANCY FOR PARISH BUSINESS MANAGER
With sadness and gratitude, we announce that Mary Scott who has worked as our parish accountant over the past ten years is putting down her quill pen and retiring at the end of July. Mary has done an amazing job dealing with bills, payroll, banking, accounting and many other things for the Friary, St Bernadette's, Christ the Lord and St Edward's (as well as being on the Finance Committee for Our Lady's and St Theodore's). And this was after a career as Bursar at Our Lady's school and as School Governor at all our schools. Thank you Mary!
We are therefore taking the opportunity to expand the role from Accountant to 'Parish Business Manager', akin to that of a School Business Manager, to take responsibility, not only for accounting, but also premises, office management, etc. This is in the knowledge that clergy will be fewer in number in the future and inevitably have less time for admin tasks, as they concentrate on pastoral matters. If you are interested in finding out more about this role, please contact Crawley Parish Office: [email protected]
