Newsletter for 18th & 25th March
Week which heralds the Easter or Resurrection Sunday is seen as a very sacred
and solemn time of the year. It is a
week in which we commemorate and remember in a special way the last week of
Jesus’ life on earth. It is a very
important week for all Christians as they focus on the passion and resurrection
of Jesus Christ and the several events that brought about these.
Holy Week begins and concludes with Palm Sunday and the Easter Triduum
respectively. The Palm Sunday marks the triumphant entry of Jesus into
Jerusalem, while the Easter Triduum which is the three days before Easter,
namely: Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday is a space of three days
that are devoted to special prayers and observances.
Holy Thursday, on the night He was betrayed and arrested, we re-enact the
Lord's Last Supper, where our Lord Jesus Christ not only instituted the Holy
Eucharist (The Holy Mass) but also the Ministerial priesthood. It was a night He showed a great example of
what love is when He washed the apostle’s feet.
Good Friday, we commemorate the crucifixion and death of our Lord. The cross
where Jesus is crucified is venerated as a sign of honour and respect for the
sacrifice Christ made for our sake.
Holy Saturday, we keep a vigil in expectation of the risen Lord. His rising
from the dead gained for us our eternal salvation, thus opening once and for
all the gate of heaven that was closed as a result of the sin of Adam.
these days, we suffer with Christ so that we might rise with Him at His
glorious Resurrection. The church calls
each and every one of us to clear our
schedules of unnecessary activities and engage ourselves and participate
actively in the activities of the coming weeks – the Triduum.
minds and hearts should be fixed on Jesus and what He did for us. Let us bear the Cross so that we may be worthy
of wearing the crown of the resurrection.
