<span "="">The Sacrament of Confirmation
This Sunday, forty of our young “Confirmandi” will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation from Bishop Richard at Worth Abbey. Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist constitute the three Sacraments of institution into the Holy Church of God. Confirmation completes Baptismal Grace, strengthening us and making us fit for mission. Those confirmed are more perfectly bound to Christ and His Church and are enriched with the special graces of the Holy Spirit that enable them to spread and defend the faith of the Church.
Now as the “Confirmati” they are to be true witnesses to Christ in all they say and do, announcing the Gospel of the Lord and they do this, primarily, by glorifying the Lord by their life. Confirmation is administered by the Bishop as the Apostle in the Church here in Arundel & Brighton. As he lays on hands, the traditional sign that the Holy Spirit is active in this sacrament, he prays that they will be sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit: ‘send your Holy Spirit upon them to be their helper and guide. Give them the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of right judgement and courage, the spirit of knowledge and reverence. Fill them with the spirit of wonder and awe in your presence, through Christ our Lord. Amen’.
We pray for them today: ‘Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and enkindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created and you shall renew the face of the earth. O God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit, did instruct the hearts of the faithful, grant that by the same Spirit we may be truly wise and ever enjoy his consolations, trough Christ our Lord. Amen’.<span "="">
